“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”
Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds

I have a feeling that 2013 will be my year. While 2012 was a mundane experience for me, past is past and i am ready to let it go now without regrets. Made a lot of wrong turns , which made me go back to the starting point - but now i made a mental picture of which roads to avoid, and if possible to make a detour if unsure.

To start 2013, i feel like i needed a refreshing vibe with a burst of colors. Did you know that the way we dress up also affects our mood? All we need to do is to don colorful clothing so that we could attract good vibes. Let's ditch the usual black and navy blue office combo and experiment with more vibrant hues!

Apologies for posting only 1 photo as all the pictures were ugly because of low lighting. The picture speaks for itself though isn't it? Colors!

2013 will be a colorful year for me. I am saying this without resorting to astrological forecasts. I am claiming success and good cheers because i am offering everything to our creator. Welcome 2013!

The Polka Dot Dress

Happy New Year to all!

Just like Mexican's who attempt to talk to spirits, Danish folks placing mistletoes under their pillows to find their "future" husbands, burning of scarecrow dummies in Ecuador,  dinner for one in Germany, celebrations in the cemetery for the Chile-ans, midnight moonlight kiss for lovers in America, and the Scottish who observe the "Hogmanay" or great balls of fire festival in celebration of the new year, the Philippines also has their own set of traditions.

My outfit post for today is inspired by one of the Filipino practices during new year, that is to wear "polka dots". Not only that, it is customary that Filipino households pile up round shaped foods in their dining tables before the new year starts. Philippines believe that this will bring them prosperity by associating the round dots to coins and wealth.

Nevertheless, I was just inspired by my colleagues facebook post today, and realized that i have to keep this as my guiding principle for 2013:

Expect GREAT things to happen, more so, ATTEMPT to do GREAT things for the glory of God!

Enhancing the Basics

“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”

For me, fashion is creativity. You need not own the most expensive brands to be fashionable. Fashion is art, and is a form of self expression. It's a process of selecting pieces of clothing, then coming up with something unconventional, yet the result still looks elegant.

Here, i played with basic pieces from my wardrobe - a blazer, a  tank top, and jeans. Just got so tired of the basic jeans plus tank combo, so i just donned a simple blazer to accentuate the look. I could just add more accessories, or perhaps knee length boots if i want a more sophisticated "sosy girl" and glammed up look, but since i'm just going to the mall, i picked up the simple ankle boot wedges instead.

As I've mentioned, i stand 5'9". I need not to dress up loudly, just to get the attention. However, if i want people to look at me without screaming it out loud, i just wear ultra high-heels and voila! High heels, whatever your height is gives that instant confidence. So, always invest in a good pair of heels (preferably platforms for the extra comfort and support).

“I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot!”

Black, Gold, and White

Just want to post the outfit that my boyfriend gave to me last Christmas. When i saw this knit top in Obsession (a new store in Glorietta 2), i immediately fell in love with it. Due to budget constraints as a result of too much shopping, i had to prompt myself to stop. Fortunately, my soon to be better half offered to buy me a top. Good thing though i passed by Terranova (also in Glorietta)...Lo and Behold, i saw the same sweater, only it was priced 30% lower.

I just love shopping at the new Glorietta because it recently has been reborn! It's not the same Glorietta we used to know. Improvements has been made - Palm Drive (inside Pasay Road ), is now the main entrance of Glorietta (a new road between Fairmont Hotel and Landmark); It has an outdoor garden, a tri-level ceiling that gives a feel of spaciousness, and of course good lighting. “Good resolutions are like babies crying in church. They should be carried out immediately.”

Time to jot down our resolutions! Sounds childish, yes? The truth is, resolutions are a product of the assessment or appraisal of oneself. To know what needs to be changed, and to avoid past mistakes is a good sign of self acceptance and humility. This means that we have chosen to remove our negativism and personal biases till we eventually gear towards improvement.

I have a couple of resolutions this year. Let me share with you a few:

1. Always put God before anything else, and he will take care of the rest. Communicate with him more often.
2. Spend time more with my family, as we are not getting any younger.
3. Be more prudent in spending. Save at least 20% of my salary every month.
4. Strive for excellence. Always give 100%, and maximize my talents.
5. Be more friendly, approachable, and jolly.
6. Avoid gossip. If unavoidable given the scenario, listen but practice objectivity.
7. Control my emotions.

Punk yet Femme!

A "punk" is a person who belongs to a rebellious counterculture group. When we encounter this word, mental images of black and white, grungy fashion (think black nails, lipstick, tunnel earrings and the like) will come into our mind. More often, punks exude angst and bravado. For me, punk can be elegant and pleasant to the eyes as well!

Noticed that i tried to tie my hair into a pony for a change? Though my cheekbones and jawline looked more pronounced, i loved the result! My outfit was actually inspired by my mane, that i decided to pull-off a look with an angstful vibe in it. I was torn between wearing knee-high boots and pumps, but the latter won, since boots aren't commonly worn here in our country.

“Activity and rest are two vital aspects of life. To find a balance in them is a skill in itself. Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have. Finding them in each other - activity in rest and rest in activity - is the ultimate freedom.”
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Celebrating Silence: Excerpts from Five Years of Weekly

Christmas is drawing near. This also means that just a week after, another year will be unfolded - all of us, oblivious on what's in store ahead. During this time, it is most appropriate to just sit back, relax, and rid ourselves from any woes. During this phase, it is most appropriate to ponder on the things we've done, leave all regrets behind, unlearn bad practices, and carry on those that will be beneficial for us in preparation for the coming year.

Today is our last day of work. Needed to do a couple of errands so, i opted a comfy yet chic outfit at the same time. Just grabbed a graphic skirt, and paired it off with a plain white cotton tee. In between errands, and depending on the location, i could just switch my footwear to heels, or flats. Notice that i also tucked my shirt in? This is to give the illusion of a smaller waist, so as not to denote a "pambahay" look. Playing with bold colors and prints adds life to any outfit.

What I Wore:
Plain Shirt - Forever 21
Graphic Skirt - Lovely Sally
Shoes - Aldo
Casio DB360 - Pinkblossom
Bracelet - House of Heirloom

“Not only am I not my dad’s favorite child—I’m his only child.
Jarod Kintz, Seriously delirious, but not at all serious

I am an only child, yes. That doesn't make me different from the rest though. I was born and raised knowing that i can't always get what i want. I vividly recall my childhood years, when my parents would refuse to buy me things based on my hasty whims - tantrums wouldn't work just to get the latest barbie doll just like what my neighbor has.Yes, i vividly recall those times when i gaze longingly at the lucky girl sporting the trendy Grosby rubber shoes... petty things of the yester-years.

My mom and dad during these times were at the height of their careers, and i would say its justifiable for them to spend. But like what i said, they only buy things they only deem necessary, and succumb to occasional "cravings". They give occasional gifts and use the priciple of "reward" whenever i accomplish a task or if i do well in school. One life lesson i learned from my dad was to learn how to be independent and work hard  so that i could get what i want (pertaining to material things).

"I can't always get what i want..."
But -
"I can work hard to get what i want."

Simplicity is Beauty

First of all, apologies for the background used in this photo. Apparently, i can't find a good spot and timing where i could have some privacy in doing outfit shots - so the best place that i could think of is the construction site of well, my very own home. Yes, me and my parents have been preparing a lot since i predicted myself getting married in 1-2 years.

Since i am the "unica hija" (only child) of my very supportive and loving parents, even though i'm already in my mid 20's, they still pledged to have this house constructed for my future family. I wish i could show you the floor plan of this humble abode, however i could not find the cad files :(

I'm so excited for christmas vacation! I promise to post more sophisticated ensembles as i have more reason to go out and dress up! Oh and by the way, it's our christmas party tomorrow! We are required to wear 1980's inspired costumes! will be posting the highlights of this event this week!

As for my attire today, opted for a clean and simple look by pairing black with white. Accessorized a bit, but used a silver chain necklace instead of gold so as not to evoke the "ang yaman ko lang" look in broad daylight. For girls with broad hips like me, pencil skirts are highly recommended to highlight the curves of your body. Just make sure to wear a top that lies slightly below your torso to create the illusion of a smaller waist.

What I wore:
1. Peplum top - Oasap
2. Skirt - Forever 21
3. White ankle strap heels - Oro Nero, distributed by CMG
4. Chain Necklace - Marc by Marc Jacobs

Winter in the Pacific?

Spent my friday and saturday at work to plan for the company's final directions for next year. My sleepless nights and caffeine overdose was totally worth it as i was able to make it through a 3 hour- market presentation to national sales managers and other management team members, including our general manager. As usual, i wasn't able to squeeze in some ootds as this was not my priority for the week.

Had our planning outside the office - at Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo. It's a perfect place to conduct special meetings like this as the venue is away from the hustles and bustles of urban manila yet not far away. It has function rooms and also a conference area that can accommodate medium sized groups up to 300 pax. What's wonderful about the place is that it provides an overlooking panoramic view of manila - and the food is really yummy! (Just a tip - to couples out there looking for a good reception venue, this could be your option! They also have very clean hotel rooms!)

Winter in the Pacific? Nah - that won't happen unless there would be another tectonic plate shift or a continental drift that will displace our country to the antarctic. Haha! Since the weather is really humid here in the Philippines (even in this yuletide season), shorts and other lightweight clothing are the usual closet staples here. Just to add a little flair, i added up a scarf, just to accentuate the look and to look a bit "western". I'll try to brew an ensemble that will evoke more of the westernized look - with all the layering and stuff for the next post!

This week will be another busy one - yet I'm excited since it's BONUS week!!!

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

Hi guys! Just got very busy but I tried my best to squeeze time for this quick post. Went overtime last night and ensured that my marketing plan for 2013 was checked by my boss prior to our strategic planning workshop this coming Friday and Saturday. I had to study the pathophysiology of a new disease covered by a new 100million brand assignment I was tasked to handle, and of course, a lot is expected from me.

Anyway, I just feel good this week. Though my schedule was extremely tiring, I was able to accomplish a lot of things, and learned a lot of new things at the same time. I just get so excited with the amount of new learning I had to absorb that despite the expanse of information I need to grasp, and the volume of concentration and time I need to put into it, it didn’t matter at all.

Just a learning: When you put your attention and efforts into something, results will always follow. Sometimes it can get very grim accomplishing a task, but when you keep on trying… soon, you’ll succeed. When you try and try… the margin of error gets slim, while the opportunity for discovery and accomplishment gets bigger.

In Retrospect: Color Blocking

“Accept who you are; and revel in it.”
Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie

Color Blocking is combining two or more block of colors in an ensemble. Bold color combinations make a dynamic and confident look. However, it isn't for those who are shy as it really catches attention. It isn't recommended as well for those who are short of stature and those who are not slim as this will cut one horizontally, making him/her look larger.

Check out this color block guide in planning for your color blocked outfits!

As mentioned earlier, color blocking is not recommended for those who are short of stature. But as for my perspective, since fashion has no rules and no bounds, if you are confident and if you feel beautiful in what you wear, that's what's more important.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
